Safeguarding from Dajjal, the LIAR!

Prophet of Islam, Muhammed PBUH and all other prophets who graced the face of earth comprehensively described one tribulation in common and that was none other than the trial of Dajjal. “Abdullah Ibn ‘Omar said, The Prophet stood up to address the people. He praised Allah SWT as He deserved to be praised, and then he spoke about Dajjal: ‘I warn you against him; there is no Prophet who has not warned his people against him, even Noah warned his people against him. But I will tell you something which no other Prophet has told his people. You must know that the Dajjal is one-eyed, and Allah SWT is not one-eyed.” Dajjal is one of the greatest signs of the Day of Judgment which is stated in ahadith with detailed emphasis. But despite the clarity of the ahadith, Prophet was still unsure that his ummah understood him.

The word “Dajjal” is derived for the root word Dajl, which accompanies itself with varied meanings in Arabic, which are as follows:
• To lie or to deceive.
• To conceal the reality of something.
• To travel fast.

All the above meanings perfectly fit the bill of Dajjal and his Fitnah as revealed in traditions of beloved Prophet PBUH.

We have reflected few aspects of Dajjal and his system of propaganda in Jews = Dajjal?  Hence, the focus of this write-up is to explore ways and means as to how shall we secure ourselves from this massive turbulence?

It is mentioned clearly in authentic ahadith that Dajjal will travel the whole world except the two sanctuaries i.e. Makkah and Madinah. Anas RA said, “The Prophet said, ‘The Dajjal will come to Madinah, and he will find angles guarding it. Neither plague nor the Dajjal will enter it, InshALLAH.’ (Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Bukhari). When he camps at the salt-marsh (Sabkhah) a place in Madinah, it will be shaken by three tremors – either physically or metaphorically, which will cause all the hypocrites enjoin Dajjal. On that day, Madinah will be cleansed of unholy people and will be refined and purified, Allah SWT knows best.

Renowned hadith scholar Hafiz Al Dhahabi said ‘seeking refuge with ASWT from Dajjal is mentioned in many Mutawatir ahadith (those ahadith with numerous lines of narrators). Abu Darda reported ALLAH’s Apostle (May peace be upon him) as saying: “If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah Al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal.” [Muslim]

Dajjal will be killed by Prophet Isa PBUH. Prophet Isa, will not grace this world as a Prophet rather his manifestation will be that of a follower of the shariah (doctrines) of Prophet Muhammed PBUH. Abdullah ibn ‘Amr said, “The Prophet said, The Dajjal will appear in my Ummah, and will remain for forty, I cannot say whether he meant forty days, forty months or forty years.” – Then ALLAH will send Isa (Jesus), the son of Mary, who will resemble ‘Urwah ibn Mas’ud (one of the companions of Muhammed PBUH). He will chase the Dajjal and kill him”. Majma Ibn Jariyah is reported to have said, “I heard the Prophet saying, ‘The son of Mary will kill the Dajjal at the gate of Ludd’ (At-Tirmidhi).

The Prophet PBUH constantly sought refuge in ALLAH SWT from the trial of Dajjal. The beloved Prophet PBUH use to supplicate this dua in his final tashahhud: (Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika min l’athaabil-qabri, wa min ‘athaabi jahannama, wa min fitnatil-mahyaa walmamaati, wa min sharri fitnatil-maseehid-dajjaal) “Oh ALLAH, I seek refuge in you from the torment of the grave, from the punishment of Hell-fire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evils of the trial of Dajjal” [Bukhari & Muslim].
